Key Ingredients In Haus Of Gloi Depravity Pumpkin Butter: What Makes It Work?
SHEA BUTTER
Shea butter is a godsend for dry skin. Derived from the nut of the Shea tree, this fat is rich in moisturising fatty acids and antioxidants.
Fatty acids are what makes it work so well: they create a protective barrier on the skin that slows down water loss. Moisture is now forced to stay into the skin, hydrating it from within.
FYI, shea butter is even more moisturising than mineral oil (what derms consider the gold standard for moisturisation). Its effects lasts for up to 8 hours, if not more!

PUMPKIN SEED OIL
Together with shea butter, pumpkin seed oil makes up the base of Haus Of Gloi Depravity Pumpkin Butter (the name kinda gave it away, didn’t it?).
What’s so special about pumpkin seed oil? It’s not that different from shea butter. Like shea, it creates a protective barrier on the skin that keeps it soft and moisturised for hours.
Plus, it has its fair share of antioxidants to fight free radicals, the nasty molecules that give you wrinkles and dark spots. Yep, your body needs antiaging skincare, too.
The Rest Of The Formula & Ingredients
NOTE: The colours indicate the effectiveness of an ingredient. It is ILLEGAL to put toxic and harmful ingredients in skincare products.
- Green: It’s effective, proven to work, and helps the product do the best possible job for your skin.
- Yellow: There’s not much proof it works (at least, yet).
- Red: What is this doing here?!
- Water: The main solvent in the product. It’s also hydrating.
- Caprylic/capric triglyceride: Derived from coconut oil, it makes skin softer and smoother.
- Glyceryl stearate: An emollient and emulsifier. It makes skin softer and smoother as well as helping the oily and watery ingredients mix together seamlessly.
- PEG 100 stearate: It enhances the texture of skincare products.
- Glycerin: A humectant that attracts and binds water to the skin, keeping it hydrated for longer.
- Cyclopentasiloxane: A volatile silicone that makes the texture soft and easy to apply. It evaporates as soon as it gets in touch with the skin.
- Behenyl alcohol: A non-drying fatty alcohol that makes the product highly moisturising.
- Cetearyl alcohol: Another non-drying alcohol with moisturising properties.
- Dimethicone: A silicone that fills in fine lines and wrinkles, making skin softer and smoother.
- Phenoxyethanol (and) caprylyl glycol (paraben and formaldehyde free preservative): A preservative that helps the product last longer.
- Hydrolyzed cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed extract: Derived from pumpkin seeds, it has moisturising and antioxidant properties.
- Tocopherol: This form of Vitamin A has powerful antioxidant and mild preservative properties.
- Tetrasodium EDTA: A chelating agent. A fancy way of saying it neutralises the trace metals found in water, so they don’t ruin the formula.
- Xanthan gum: It’s a thickener.
- Citric acid: It helps to adjust the pH of skincare products.
Texture
The texture is very rich, yet it sinks very quickly into the skin, without leaving a greasy residue behind.
Fragrance
Depravity is described as “pure corruption: clove, nutmeg lurk amongst the sweetest offerings of coconut, on a bed of rich golden amber, laden with dustings of sandalwood and spilled wine”.
It’s an opulent, decadent and mysterious ambery woody blend with spicy accents, sweetened by the subtlest touch of coconut. It’s very feminine. And very strong. It lingers on for about a day and a half.
If you’re into sweet and delicate floral fruity scents, Depravity will probably give you a headache. But those who are into exotic, dark and luxurious scents must give this one a go.
P.S. Fragrances can irritate sensitive skin. But if your skin can take it, give this a try. You’ll never go back to vanilla-scented anything!
How To Use It
Apply a small dollop as soon as you get out of the shower. A little goes a looooooooooog way.
Packaging
Haus Of Gloi Depravity Pumpkin Butter is packaged in a huge jar sealed with a safety seal – nice touch, especially from an indie brand. You need so little for each application, this stuff will last you for months.
Performance & Personal Opinion
Haus Of Gloi Depravity Pumpkin Butter is one of the most moisturising body creams I’ve ever tried in my life – and I’ve tried plenty!
It’s so moisturizing, it leaves even the driest of skin soft and smooth for the entire day. That’s right. You apply it and you forget all about it – no need to touch it up during the day.
This stuff is the real deal. I also like it doesn’t leave a greasy trail all over my clothes. Phew!
Can we talk about the scent? I know I always say I prefer fragrance-free products because they’re gentler for sensitive skin – I stand by that.
But I don’t have sensitive skin. What I have is a passion for perfume. This body butter smells like real perfume – not those fake strawberry or run-of-the-mill sandalwood concoctions.
If you’re a perfumista, you won’t want to use anything else, too.

YAY! I’m going to have to place an order from them. I actually had my cart ready to check out but my browser closed and I forgot about it. Like I’ve said, I have 32 tabs open? 😀 Near impossible to open every web page again but I do bookmark my favorite ones.
Janessa, oh no, bad browser! You have to go back and make an order, their stuff is amazing!
I will! I’ll click through the link on this review too. Hopefully it informs them I’m a bwb reader! It better 😀
I’m ordering today for sure. I’ll let you know how I like it or what I get.
Yes, please, do let me know what you get and how you like them. And do get a Pumpking Butter, they are sooooo moisturizing and the scents are divine!
I love that you bolded some of the words. It summarizes the review and explains why you loved it in the summary! 😀 The summary helps a lot and in fact, it’s one of my favorite parts in a review because it’s to the point and states whether the reviewer likes or recommends it.
Janessa, I’m glad you like it. I can become quite wordy, and I know not everyone has always the time to read the entire post, so I hope this helps to make it scannable. That way, anyone can see at a glance what the product does or doesn’t. 🙂
And now I’ve got you addicted too! They do have the best moisturisers in the world hands down!
Annabella, you certainly have! I couldn’t imagine living without them now. Thanks so much for helping me get them. *hugs*
